May was crazy for my family. 2 kids returning from college, trips, multiple concerts, and a wedding (my brother’s). But, for the last two weeks our crazy has been of a different brand: we got a new addition to our family!
If you’ve been here a while you might remember that a small handful of years ago, we had 4 big dogs. Then, in just over 3 years, we lost 3 of them. It was devastating. One was older, but it wasn’t old age. The next was my girl’s littermate, who got lymphoma at age 5. Then, our older dog at least made it to 14. He made it all the way through, but we lost him last Christmas. Luckily, everyone was home. But it was heartbreaking. We still can’t handle the vet saying “it’s probably nothing.”
Those losses left our one 8-year-old doggo all alone. She used to be part of a real pack! She needed a friend. She’s very smart and needed the mental stimulation too. So we took her out with us to rescues, and Craigslist families who had fosters to place. And we let her choose the new puppy. She’s being an insanely amazing big sister. At 9 weeks old, our new little boy is already very good with ‘sit,’ pretty good with ‘stay’ and almost fully potty trained. He’s very smart… except for doors. We don’t ask.
So please help us welcome our new baby!
